Growing Together To Be Our Best

Peter Pan Week

Everyone knows about the great work that Great Ormond Street Hospitaldoes for children. The author of Peter Pan J M Barrie gave the rights to his book to the hospital to help fund it. To celebrate the launch of a new Peter Pan book the hospital came up with the idea of a Peter Pan week culminating in a world record breaking attempt to have 250,000 children around the world read a poem from the book at the same time.

Some of the children are reading the book anyway so brought in their copies the hospital had produced special sheets for everyone else to read.

Our local Police Community Support Officer Dan Wyatt from Ely Police Station came in to act as our independent adjudicator and made sure that everyone was reading.

You can watch the video of us reading for just over the required 2 minutes on this clip by clicking on the picture right it is about 10Mb long

Sadly we learnt in August, that not enough schools took part to break the record. However almost 67,000 people took part and helped to raise a fantastic £100,000 for the new renal unit at Great Ormond Street hospital, so its not really a failure. All the children will get a certificate and a pin badge to thank them for their effort.
