Growing Together To Be Our Best

Really Rubbish?

On Tuesday 22nd June Class 3 and Green Gang went to the Really Rubbish Awards Day at City Hall.

It was a beautiful day and what more sustainable way than taking a bus is there (apart from swimming down the River Ely and up the River Taff) so Miss Allen gave us each the £2 fare with which to buy a day to go ticket. We went on one of the bendy buses through Canton into the centre of Cardiff.

There were lots of different activity tables around the Function Room each of which would give us a question which we had to write down on a sheet. At the end of the day the answered were drawn out of a hat by the councilor in charge.

Cardiff Road Safety team were there encouraging us to use our bikes,

Really Rubbish team had a pledge tree, given all the events we have been doing this year that was no problem. We also had to guess what the plastic roof tile was built from it turned out to be recycled nappies!

Wonderful music was provided by Cardiff band Under the Driftwood Tree they played some great music and the sense of fun and enthusiasm permeated the whole event. We all loved the pirate song Mrs Garcia was doing all the actions (not necessarily in the right order) The question they asked us was "What country does the didgeridoo come from?"

Jugglestruck circus taught us how to juggle or balance on a ball or use the diablo. They asked which city has the biggest circus "Moscow" or "Timbuktu"

Our neighbours at Recreate were there and provided wodges of scrap material to make recycled costumes. We all had a go at making outfits some of us took part in a fashion parade with our creations.

Bag2School had some wonderful fundraising ideas that involved recycling clothes, shoes and bedding.

It was such a beautiful day that we had lunch outside City Hall on the grass.

After lunch we had a speech from the Lord Mayor and a councilor. There were lots of different awards given out and Green Gang were delighted when Millbank won the award for the most innovative recycling scheme with the work done on plastic recycling. That was nice but we were all thrilled when one of us won a bike- wow!
