Growing Together To Be Our Best

* Be the Change

On the First day back to school in 2013 the juniors had a great fun assembly Tom and Prabhjit from the Free the Children organisation. They told us about their be the change school programme designed to engage students throughout the United Kingdom and motivate them to create a better world. "With a focus on the United Nation Millennium Development Goals, students will develop leadership skills and learn about volunteerism and social entrepreneurship as a means of making a positive impact on the world." how cool is that!

The Assembly told the pupils about how in 1995 a 12 year boy was so cross about an article he read in the newspaper about child slavery that he decided that he should do something about it. The Boy Craig Kielburger gathered 11 school friends to begin fighting child labour. Their organisation grew and grew. Today, Free The Children is an international charity and educational partner, with more than 1.7 million youth involved in our innovative education and development programs in 45 countries.

The children had to think about the problems that they want solved and where in the world they want to help others. Again it is not just about giving people a handout of food, it's about giving them the chance to have a bee hive to sell honey, a loom to make cloth it's about helping people be the best they can. So we want all the children to be the change they want to see in the world and in doing so be the best that they can be

Millbank has always encouraged the pupils to take an active part in society and were really keen to get involved with the project.
