Hello from the Children & Staff
Croeso y Banc y Felin means welcome to Millbank in Welsh

WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS WEEK

Edition 364 Friday 18th May 2012It is the third Wales Sustainability Week which is very important to us, and we'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions as to how we can be a more sustainable school country. It is also Walk to School Week, a great excuse to leave the car at home get some healthy exercise, and of course be part of a more sustainable lifestyle.

We have a visit from Welsh Secretary Cheryl Gillan on Monday to find out more about our work with the Kids Taskforce through the missdorothy.com project which we launched in Wales several years ago.

do one thing for diversity logoMonday is the United Nations World Day for Cultural Diversity. Again a very important event for all of us, especially with all the work the children are doing on the Olympics. This year is again asking us to 'DO ONE THING' to learn about another cultures (of course the more things we do the better!) So we've asked the children to see how many languages that they can say 'Hello' in. But the more we understand everyone in our world the better we can all work together to make it a fairer and better world for everyone.

Tuesday is the United Nations International Day For Biological Diversity and -very aptly given the children's studies on salmon- this years theme is about Marine Diversity. Whatever continent we are on we are linked by the seas that carry our pollution and litter around the world damaging eco-systems and harming wildlife. There is a special event for families at the National Museum in Town to help celebrate the day and explain the importance of biological diversity.

No CaptionNo CaptionOn Friday the Olympic torch is due to arrive in the centre of Cardiff as it makes it's way around the country. The staff are planning to gather in town and want families to join them outside City Hall at 5:30 wearing Welsh outfits and Welsh Sports kit. We'll be making banners and flags to wave so come along.

No CaptionThe Queen's Diamond Jubilee falls in half term on the 4th June and on the 24th May our school was officially opened in 1902 so we have decided to combine the two events with a special celebration on Thursday the 31st May. If you know of anyone who celebrated the Coronation at Millbank in 1952 or have any ideas or suggestions for the party please let us know. We need volunteers to help set out a 'street party' in the yard. If you are available please let a member of staff know that you are willing to help.

We have been asked to list some of the awards we have achieved on the website and we are trying out different layouts. Just put your mouse over the award to read about it or click on it to visit the site. Please tell us your thoughts if you think we should add others or omit the ones below- Many thanks.

Click to visit the old websiteWe set up our first website as prior to the schools centenary celebrations in 2002, it has been a really useful tool in communicating with parents actually showing them just some of the activities that go on everyday at the school. We have received compliments from around the world on the 'quality & friendliness' of our school, the pupils really appreciate this. Why not take the time to explore our old website by clicking the monitor opposite

We hope that the Council's school IT service will put the website back up again soon.
