WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS WEEK

Edition number 278We all want to support our football team in the final of the HOWARD SPRIGGS CUP on Monday at 3:45 on Trelai Park, some come along and cheer them on.

Monday we also have the start of a series of talks about Energy -how it is made and how we can all save it- as part of the National Science and Engineering Week from 12–21 March 2010. Green Gang are really happy to promote many activities at the schoolbased on saving energy and saving the planet. They are particlularly keen to encourage families to take part in this years WWF’s Earth Hour on Saturday 27 March 2010 at 8.30pm. And they really want to hear from you about your own earthhour.

Class 5 had a great visit from the magistrates at Cardiff last week and will be conducting their own trial next week. Whilst on Tuesday dosbarth Dewi Sant is to visit the local Harvester restaurant to learn about salad and fresh food.

The School Ambassadors remind you that the Childrens Comissioner for Wales wants to know "your opinions about how he could use the Backchatinternet to keep in touch with children and young people." on the Back chat section of his webpage. We want to know about any issues that you think can be improved in the school or wider community.

We are happy that we have now received notice that Millbank Primary has achieved "the prestigious ICT Mark by Becta, the government-funded body responsible for promoting the use of ICT in Britain’s schools and colleges. click to learn moreThe award recognises the school’s success in developing the strategic use of ICT in both administration and across the curriculum. Parents will have proof that their children are attending a school at the forefront of modern technology."-that's was a nice Christmas present.


WHAT IS NEW IN THE GALLERY? :-

Highlight for Album: DINOSAUR SOUNDSThere are some snaps of Reception learning about Dinosaurs and of course pictures of our St Davids Highlight for Album: EISTEDDFOD day Eisteddfod and craft competitions.

Mrs Brown added a few snaps of Class 3 doing some science and a few more of class 4's Tudor Gardens. The choir visited our friends at the Regency Nursing home

We all support our friends in "Jukebox Juniors" in their competition on Sky TV on Sunday. Reporters Club visited the Echo, We held a Safer Internet Day event for Parents. Mrs Brown visited Techniquest. There are a few snaps of class 4 doing science. Highlight for Album: Untitledand a few of the football tournament.

We had a range of activities throughout the week as part of 'National Storytelling week' with UNICEF's Day for Change in which we raised money for Haiti. Dosbarth Dewi Sant learnt about Roman food and Dosbarth Laura Ashley learnt about Tudor Gardens. We have a few of Highlight for Album: Untitledvisits to the Library for Class 5, class 2 and class 3

Highlight for Album: BIRDWATCHThere are a few snaps of children taking part in the RSPB's 'BIG SCHOOLS BIRDWATCH' project. Some of us visited G24i a fantastic state of the art factory making solar panels. The boys won four matches to get through to the semi finals at the Community Cup and everyone had a taster session of Karate.The Upper Juniors played Squash. There are a few snaps of the Rising Stars club and Dosbarth Dewi Sant "learning about sound" in their Science lesson.

Highlight for Album: Dorothy.comThere are some shots of the missdorothy.com welsh launch at the school as well as some of Derek and his harmonica. Some of the family pottery club. We added a few photos of the pupils enjoying the snow in our first week back in 2010. The Ambassadors updated their page and added a section about their project on Cardiff Castle admission policy for young people.

Highlight for Album: CAROL SERVICEThere a few videos and snaps at the Carol Service at St Davids. WHighlight for Album: XMAS CONCERTe had some smashing performances from the children in the school concerts and they also had a great time at the parties. There are a few snaps of the juniors visit to the Pantomime in Barry.

Highlight for Album: MEETING OUR MPOur MP Kevin Brennan came into school to tell us all about the UN conference in Copenhagen. Pentatonic Brass Quintet visited us to show us how to play the trumpet and other instruments

Highlight for Album: EUROPEAN COMMISSIONEROur Ambassadors interviewed the The European Commissioner for Young People. Mrs Webber's & Meyricks retirement party is online with a few snaps of the choir singing too. The Christmas Crafts Club have a few snaps along with the Judo club as well as class 2 doing some ICT work

Highlight for Album: JOE LEDLEYEveryone wanted to interview Cardiff City Player Joe Ledley at the Vale training ground, but 3 lucky pupils did and got to meet the players too. There are a few snaps of the Christmas Fayre.

Highlight for Album: CLIMATE CHANGEThe ambassadors visited the Children's Commissioner as part of their training. We planted 20 trees as part of the BBC's TREE O'CLOCK record breaking attempt and Green Gang also organised the Blue Hand prints to raise awareness of the Copenhagen agreement and global warming.

Celebrating 20 years of the UNCRCWe have some nice shots of Children in Need, The Anti bullying workshop and Celebrating 20 years of Children's Rights at the Senedd. The infants are photographed at Trelia Sports Centre and so are Class 5 we also have some shots of doing Rugby.

We have some photos of the Footballers doing training over at Trelai Park. Interviewing the UN AmbassadorThe Ambassadors interviewed the UN Ambassador about his work with some fab pictures of Millie in New York too. We all had lots of fun and raised funds for more fun and activities in our Halloween Funday whilst we also collected Shoes for Africa as a practical way of helping others. Green Gang had a great day at the Energy Awareness Conference.

Class 4 had a great time the Vue cinema as part of National Schools Film week and also explored the new Central Library. Class 5/Dosbarth Anuerin Bevan gave a great Harvest Festival Service and did some work with the Fire Service. Class 3 deigned & made some Pizzas with Miss Garcia. Class 2/ Dosbarth Dylan Thomas had a great time with the Fire Service and made a lovely display on Friendship.

International Day of PeaceWe have some pictures of us celebrating the UN Day of Peace and, following their election, we added a bit about our Children's Ambassadors who will be doing a lot of work on promoting the work of the Children's Commission. There are some of Dosbarth Dewi Sant and Dosbarth Laura Ashley in the front of the school enjoying the sun. The first photo this year was of the Energy Enforcers.


We had our leavers Assembly with the special Millie Awards. Friday was Green Britain day and you can see some of our promises and ideas chalked on the playground.

You can see photos of our Champion Football teams at the Ely festival. the Summer Fayre including the Final of Millbank's Got Talent is here and some shots of our Fitness Day as well as the Quest Seekers project running with at Ely Library over the summer. Millie learnt all about Armed Forces Day and we are all proud of the Girl Footballer of the Year award too. Mrs C Brown has shots of Dosbarth laura Ashley doing Applique and Shadow puppets

There are shots of the Tag Rugby Team, First Aid Club and Netball Club. We all enjoyed Sports Day. Class 1 gave us a lovely assembly, and you can also see them visit a working Farm. We have more pictures from the Barn for Year 6 and more in class 4. You can see the stamp launch pictures.

There are snaps of the Community Garden event at Glyn Derw, and of course Green Gang have a quick revision on composting from the experts at Lamby Way. There are a few of the Pirates & Princesses day. Community EventDosbarth Laura Ashley did some fun work making a giant tarantula sculpture out of old milk cartons. We have also added more photographs to Venture week and those of the butterflies emerging in dosbarth Dewi Sant.

Venture weekThe children took lots of snaps of the chicks and have put up the video of them hatching too. There are some snaps of the school council's visit to the High Sheriff at the Law Courts. Class 3's wonderful assembly about the weather is online, including a few videos of them singing and dancing. You can see some of the Chicksjuniors enjoying their Cycling Proficiency training.

Venture weekThere are some snaps of the eggs in the incubator and then hatching. Some photos of venture week are online as well as more of Class 3 climbing at the barn, they also have some nice shots of the caterpillars. ButterfliesClass 2/dosbarth De wi Sant put their assembly about Mexico on to parents. The photographs of the Bee assembly are online with Green Gang getting their awards.

Its good to shareYou can see that the Interview club had a great time with the Chief Constable and exploring the police museum. Enterprise week was fun with everyone learning about the world of finance and making lots of lovely craft items. Trelai Barn climbingThere a few snaps of the dog warden visiting year 6. Year 3 have put up a few snaps of them rock climbing at Trelai Barn as well as some of their visit to Caerleon. Whilst Class 1 had put a few snaps of their day trip to Barry island and a visit to the woodland. well done to Green gang got third prize for their' Bee Friendly' wheelbarrow at the Cardiff Royal Horticultural Show.Year 6 visited Cardiff Bay with Mrs Lawrence and had a great time surveying the site and doing some designs for some grWheelbarrow competitioneat attractions.

Red Nose DayA few snaps added in the Funky Friends club. The teachers had a Quiz as part of Red Nose Day and you can see the main Red Nose Day assembly with cake sales and lots of fab costumes. In the afternoon we interviewed the Children's commissioner for Wales Keith Towler. The Digital SwitchoverYou can see Year 6 working with Mrs Lawrence on the history of TV's and watch as Digit Al came in with the TV crew from ITV Wales, the news article is here. Class Four mean while had some fun trying Caviar and making blinnis as they learnt a bit about Russia

St Davids DayThere are some photos of our St David's Day celebrations, it was great to see so many children taking part. You can also see some of the children making 'Dewi the dragon' for their Eisteddfod display. There are some snaps of us enjoying the Jugglestruck Road safety theatre.

Fun In the snowWe all had a lot of fun in the snow building our snowman. Miss Clissold took class one over the Park to have lots of fun in the snow and put up some other snaps of their small world project too. Mrs Cleaver surprised us all by announcing 25 years service we quickly knocked up a card to say a huge thank you for being such an important part of the school. You can also see some of year 6 working on their St Davids Day dragon here.

Chinese New YearYou can see all the fun the infants had celebrating Chinese New Year. Camera Club got in the Echo with their interviews and fab video skills. Year 6 actually took some pictures of their visit to the Crucial Crew. Funky Fun ClubA few snaps of some of the clubs the Violin, Ball skills and guitar clubs as well as the Funky Fun club

There are some pictures of Class 3 & 4 playing Rugby and having a great time too. They also have some photos and video of their interview of their MP Kevin Brennan and Echo News reporter Moira Sharkey.
