Growing Together To Be Our Best

More Caterpillars

Mrs brown got some more lovely caterpillars for us to look at. They munched a lot of nutrients and crawled up to the top of the special beaker and there the strangest thing started to happen!

These are known as painted lady butterflies because of their bright colours. They were so small delicate and vulnerable yet these butterflies manage to fly all the way to Africa at the end of summer before returning in Spring.

They started to wrap themselves in a special silk thread that was carefully attached to the top of the beaker, then they wrapped it around themselves to form a chrysalis or cocoon

Because of half term we missed them emerging from their cacoons and the wonderful sight of their wings emerging and opening out. But we had a lovely supprise on our return to see them all.
